4H Projects

Under the Ceramics – Greenware & Bisque category

Beginner (Grades 3, 4, 5) – Exhibit a simple article using clear or crystal glazes and simple painting techniques. Articles could include flower pots, mugs, spoon holders, candle holders, simple figures or book ends.

PBY Translation: Choose a simple mold from our collection, pour the mold, return after a minimum of a day to paint it using any of our glazes. After drying for approximately 2 weeks, project will be clear glazed, fired, and ready to pick up. Please schedule an appointment.

Intermediate (Grades 6, 7, 8) – Exhibit one article or a set of articles using simple to modified molds, simple staining techniques, clear or crystal glazes.

PBY Translation: Choose a simple or slightly more complex mold from our collection, pour the mold, return after a minimum of a day to paint it using any of our glazes. After drying for approximately 2 weeks, project will be clear glazed, fired, and ready to pick up. Please schedule an appointment.

Advanced (Grades 9, 10, 11, 12) – Exhibit one article using difficult molds and incorporating any of the glazing or staining techniques that you have learned.

Choose a complex mold from our collection, pour the mold, return after a minimum of a day to paint it using any of our glazes. After drying for approximately 2 weeks, project will be clear glazed, fired, and ready to pick up. Please schedule an appointment.

Under the Ceramics – Hand Formed category

All levels – Exhibit one hand formed article (may be a set) made from moist clay with a simple glaze. Beginners (grades 3, 4, 5) should create a simple piece with older members creating a larger or more complicated exhibits. Suggestions include: candy dish, vase, decorative dish or tray, candle holders, etc.

PBY Translation: Exhibit a project done in one of our Beginner Marvelous Mud Classes (held on Fridays) or contact us to set a time for special class. Pricing and schedule is based upon project and availability of staff. Clay projects are typically scheduled on Thursday and Fridays. After drying for approximately 2 weeks, project will be clear glazed, fired, and ready to pick up. Please schedule an appointment.


Under the Miscellaneous Crafts category

Any craft which does not fit in one of the above categories. If a craft you want to exhibit is not listed here, you may still create and exhibit it. Judging will be based on a like-project or will be up to the judges discretion.

PBY Translation: Exhibit any project painted and fired in our studio. This can be bisque or clay and does not need to be from a mold that you have poured. An appointment is not needed if painting bisque. Clay projects can be created on Thursday or Friday with a previous clay classes taken at Pottery By You. Clay requires approximately 2 weeks to dry and fire. Please call if you have questions.
